Abstrakt: The article herein concerns direct conversion of thermal energy into mechanical energy of fluid motion by means of a specially designed thermomechanical pump. The conditions of fluid boiling in constraint environment were considered. The peculiarity of fluid evaporation in constraint environment when no natural convection is developed in the tubes is periodic overheating and explosive growth of vapour phase which leads to shooting the fluid out of the tube. Vapour slugs formed under slug boiling conditions are the compressible volumes which cause flow fluctuation inside the tube even if the flow is steady upstream the channel. Pressure pulses which develop when vapour slugs are formed have negative effect on equipment, since they lead to its vibration and breakdown (potential tube bending, breakdown of the tube-to-tube sheet joint, etc.). At the same time, energy of the vapour slugs can be used. The possibility of using energy of the vapour slugs for pumping the fluid is considered herein. A model of operation of the thermomechanical pump is provided. Experimental study of its operation is also described. Technical specification and areas of application of the thermomechanical pump are offered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
