This article presents the high risks of exploration and mining of coal deposits for coal supply to hard-to-reach regions of North Yakutia (North-east of Russia). It's caused by a lot of factors complicating and cost-increasing all process of development of the deposits from exploration of georesource to coal combustion of consumer remote from coal mines for thousands of kilometres. Special geoinformation systems is created and developed to improve the level of technological and organizational decisions. It is based as on free and open and also licensing software. Various information about all elements of supply chain accumulates in geosystem. The data are gridded in space of the region and/or deposit. The system consists of several blocks: main characteristics of coal deposits in the region; the information about producers and consumers of energy resources; used and promising technologies of mining, transportation and utilization of solid fuel; the data about transport and logistic schemes and their parameters; digital databases of the most commercially attractive deposits for mining. The deposits or parts of deposits that can be economically mined at the present identify as the result of study of geomodels of several selected mineral deposits. Areas with high quality of coal are indicated. Geoinformation system has been continually updated and used for studies focuses on improving of deposit development, optimization of parameters of geotechnical processes in open-cast coal mines, rational justification of a set of procedures for coal quality control and its losses in supply chain.
