This study examines the concept of Catholic marriage among Filipino college students utilizing a descriptive research design. A total of 1021 (male = 419; female = 602) college students were asked to participate. A researcher-made questionnaire and focused group discussion guide were used in the study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for the quantitative portion and phases of thematic analysis for the qualitative portion. Findings revealed that the majority of the participants want to have a Catholic marriage in the future. Furthermore, the concept of marriage among college students is that it is a sacrament/sacred, covenant and commitment, and ceremonial. Factors that would lead to failure in marriage are infidelity, financial issues, and lack of communication. However, success in marriage needs to have a God-centered relationship, fidelity to one's partner, and unconditional love. Results showed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) in a Catholic marriage. Thus, recommendations were given to strengthen and sustain positive concepts of courtship, marriage, and family life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
