Recommended supplementation of salt with iodine and requirements for controlling iodised salt result in the necessary validation of the titrimetric method used for the quantification of this micronutrient. This study presents the validation of this method through the accuracy profile approach over the range of 12-36 ppm. Several performance criteria were evaluated: linearity, repeatability, intermediate precision, trueness and accuracy. The limits of detection and quantification were also determined. The recoveries of iodine ranged from 98.1 % to 100.2 % with relative standard deviations between 0.7 % and 2.2 %. The accuracy profile confirmed the performance of the method. These results, as well as the very low values obtained for limits of detection and quantification, indicate that this method could be used for the iodine quantification in salt with acceptable analytical performance.
