The paper aims for presenting systematic review of all aspects to be considered for coatings in dry machining. Many have tried machining processes on various components with zero use of cutting fluids to avoid hazardous environments. The process of machining the components without use of cutting fluids is called as dry machining. Our primary aim is to focus on areas and applications where dry machining is used. The various coatings on tools used during dry machining has been discussed along with their properties considering temperature sustainability, modifications in tool geometry for better performance during machining. The tools used in turning process undergo very high thermal loads as well as abrasive and adhesive loads. The coatings on tools provides thermal barrier between tool and work piece thereby decreasing thermal loads as well as increasing tool life There are coatings like TiAlN, CrN, CrAlN, etc which can be deposited on inserts before machining. Most widely carbide inserts with suitable coatings are used for dry turning operations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
