Abstrakt: Field experiments were carried out to assess leaf residues of basil, Ocimum gratissimum; neem, Azadirachta indica; bitter leaf, Vernonia amygdalina and wild sunflower, Tithonia diversifolia for the management of nematode pests of cowpea cv. IT96D-610 during the 2015 and 2016 cropping seasons at Ogbomoso, Nigeria. Meloidogyne, Pratylenchus and Xiphinema species were encountered. The results obtained in each year showed that the leaf residues, applied at 2.0 ton/ha, significantly improved the growth and yield of the cowpea and also significantly reduced both the nematode root damage and nematode population in the soil and root. Leaf residues were confirmed to contain certain nematicidal toxicants and were therefore recommended for nematode management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
