Abstrakt: The article provides analysis of the existing methods of situational adaptation and spatial data models used in ground-based and on-board geographic information systems (GIS); examines their advantages and disadvantages. A new method based on a model in which spatial data are represented as a set of successive approximations is suggested; it allows to adapt them by sampling at the required level of detail. The results of the simulation based on the data generated using the proposed method, are shown. The efficiency of its application for on-board geographic information systems and solutions is proved. It is concluded that the method is suitable to use for solving real-time resource-intensive GIS-tasks on the on-board equipment with limited computational power. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
