Experiment on partial compression bearing capacity parallel to grain of parallel strand bamboo.

Abstrakt: To research the mechanical performance of parallel strand bamboo (PSB) under partial compression parallel to grain, 5 groups of 40 specimens were tested with 5 different working conditions. The loading method of controlling displacement was used in the test up to failure of specimen, the average ultimate bearing capacity of each group of specimen was obtained and the loading-displacement curve of each group specimen was performed. The results showed that the ultimate bearing capacity of parallel strand bamboo under partial compression parallel to grain is stable, and the biggest variable coefficient of ultimate bearing capacity of each group of specimens is only 4.19%. The working condition around the compressive PSB block has significant impact on the bearing capacity and failure mode, the increasing in quantity of confining pressure face is beneficial to improve in bearing capacity, compressive stiffness and ductility of specimen under partial loading parallel to grain. According to the testing result and interior mechanical analysis, the theoretical equation of partial compression parallel to grain of was proposed and the calculated results were in good agreement with the experimental results.
