| Abstrakt: | The article focuses on sigmoid volvulus (SV) which is a closed-loop intestinal obstruction form, in which the sigmoid colon wraps around its own base. It mentions anatomical predisposition is principally associated with male gender, advanced age, fiber rich diet and chronic constipation and chronic distention extends the colonic transit period and worsens the elastogenesis of the colonic wall. It also mentions research studies looking at intraluminal pressure. |
