Vibrational predissociation of the 4pσ B"1 Σ u+ levels of D2: an anomalous isotope effect.

Abstrakt: The predissociation of the 4pσ B"1 Σu+ levels of D2 is investigated theoretically by both a multichannel quantum defect theory and a two-level perturbation theory approach and discussed in comparison with experimental data. Whereas the B" v' ≥ 1 levels of H2 are known to rapidly predissociate through vibrational coupling with the 3pσ B" 1 Σ+ u continuum, these levels are observed to give rise to fluorescence in D2.
