The aim of this paper is to design a novel singlephase four-switch AC - AC converter topology with DC link to protect the input power source of the load connected to Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. This converter is designed to avoid distortions in the AC mains, providing an output voltage with low harmonic distortion and hence improving the reliability of the system. This converter features sinusoidal inputs and outputs and more importantly, low manufacturing cost due to its reduced number of switches. Besides reducing the number of controlled switches, this configuration has high efficiency and lesser DC link high frequency power losses compared with the conventional configurations. Several relevant characteristics of the converter are addressed, such as input voltage, rectified voltage, DC link voltage and harmonic distortion. Finally, experimental results are provided from a prototype system to verify the validity of the proposed topology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
