Abstrakt: The article focuses on the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project (CHCP) established by members of the local Chinese American Women's Club in 1987 to challenge the persistent occlusion of the Chinese American heritage of San Jose, California. Topics discussed include an arson fire that consumed the Market Street Chinatown on May 4, 1887 and the possibility of using heat-affected artifacts from the Market Street Chinatown to bear witness to the injustice and trauma of the May 4, 1887 fire.
