Pregnancy loss is a common outcome of conception affecting about 15-20%of the clinically recognized pregnancies. Chromosomal anomalies have been demonstrated to play role in the same. Cytogenetic analysis becomes mandatory to recognize probable chromosomal abnormalities. This retrospective study aimed to describe the prevalence of chromosomal disorders in couples experiencing recurrent abortions (RA). A total of 160 North Indian Couples with RA were evaluated for cytogenetic analysis. Out of the 160 couples (320 individuals) assessed, 15 individuals (4.68%) had chromosomal abnormalities. The frequency and distribution of chromosomal anomalies among both males (5%) and females (4.37%) was evaluated. This study suggests the importance of chromosomal analysis in RA cases for better diagnosis and genetic counseling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
