The experiment was conducted in the laboratory at Fisheries Research Station, JAU, Okha. Lactobacillus plantarum, Bacillus subtilis and two bacterial strains (P1 and P2) isolated from the gastrointestinal tract of Litopenaeus vannamei were grown in the MRS broth prepared in 34 ppt salinity marine water and compared with the control broth. Absorbance of the culture tube was measured at 625 nm in spectrophotometer. All the bacterial strains were able to grow in the marine water broth though the growth rate was significantly lower than the control broth. This indicates that the probiotic bacterial strains can be used as water probiotics in marine aquatic system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
