Daryl K. Heasley established the tradition of organizing the Bulletin Index thematically and of devoting the spring issue of the Rural Sociology to rural education. The editor intended to continue that tradition. The citations for this issue were selected from materials supplied by the ERIC/CRESS Clearinghouse on Rural Education and Small Schools. Linda Miller, Coordinator of Acquisitions and Processing, was most helpful in providing the materials since ERIC/CRESS moved from New Mexico State University to the Appalachia Educational Laboratory. The article also presents the work contributed by prior editors to maintain the usefulness of the Bulletin Index for bibliographic research. Some of the contributions are "Small, Rural Schools Can Effectively Utilize the PSAT/NMSQT," by Allen McCune, "A Harvest to Equity," by Yvonne M. Gayeff, "Preparing Rural Elementary Teachers," by Milo K. Campbell, "The New Immigration Act: What Educators Ought to Know," by Lori S. Orum, " Evaluation of the Williamsburg County Direct Instruction Program: Factors Leading to Success in Rural Elementary Programs," by Craig Darch etc. |
