The ideas about the establishment of a South Slavic Federation represent an important part of Al. Stamboliyski's ideology. However, this topic has escaped the attention of the numerous researchers that have studied his life and work. One explanation is that the ideas in question did not fit into the matrix of his image built by the propaganda in the decades after the Second World War. The author of the paper tries to shed light on that particular omission in the research of his political ideology. The paper is based on documentation from Central State Archives, Sofia; Bulgarian Historical Archives, National Library, Sofia; Archives of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Art, Belgrade; Archives of Foreign Office, London and others.
