Space activities represent an interesting research area around the world and not only for space launchers, but, also, to mitigate the space debris around Earth. This paper is dedicated to the analysis of such fragments that enter Earth atmosphere, to investigate the survivability of the re-entry vehicles. To this end, a heat flux analysis is considered necessary, for the debris survival. Heat flux analysis is possible with some commercial CFD software like ANSYS Fluent and OpenFoam, but they are always difficult to use, prone to Carbuncle phenomenon and very expensive from computational point of view. Due to these issues, this paper developed an in-house code able to analyze quickly the heat load that is acting on the debris surface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
