Abstrakt: Due to the diminishing of fossil fuel sources, various efforts to find the alternative energy sources are currently being encouraged by many countries, including Indonesia. One of the alternative energy currently being developed is biofuel, including biodiesel. Biofuel is an alternative fuel to replace of fossil fuels have some advantages such as renewable, non toxic, low emission and environmental friendly. Jatropha curcas oil is one of the feedstock to be biofuel production. The conventional process for biofuel production is based on the alcoholysis of jatrophacurcas oils in the presence of base catalyst carried out in batch stirred reactors. This process needs more 2 hours for complete reaction of oil to biofuel. The aim of this work to study the effect of ultrasound energy in the biofuel process production. Process variables include molar ratio of oil to alcohol, loading of KOH as catalyst, reaction temperature and reaction time. The yield of biofuels obtained 96 % within 15 minutes reaction time, 60 °C reaction temperature under 42 kHz frequencies ultrasound energy.
