Article deals with the historical aspect of the formation of eclecticism from the Ancient times to the present day, its essence and forms at different stages of the development of philosophical thought. Its place in the philosophical conception of postmodern and human consciousness of the XXI century are determined. The causes of change in the attitude of thinkers to eclecticism from its full adoption to the same complete denial and, finally, the emergence of a «new» eclecticism in postmodern.
