Abstrakt: Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is one of the most common causes of an altered normal skin color. Both exogenous and endogenous inflammatory conditions can result in the increased pigmentation seen with PIH. There are at least two major processes that are involved in the hyperpigmentation occurring after skin inflammation that may result in either epidermal melanosis or dermal melanosis. The affected areas of hyperpigmentation correlate with the distribution of the original inflammatory dermatosis.
