Abstrakt: Introduction: Gingival hyperplasia is a frequent feature of gingival diseases. However, due to their varied presentations, diagnosis of these entities becomes challenging for the clinician. Mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MECs) are neoplasms of salivary glands that occur mainly on the hard and soft palate, buccal mucosa, and retromolar area. This malignant tumor less commonly involves the minor salivary glands and very rarely involves gingiva. Case Presentation: A 35‐year‐old male patient reported with a soft, painless, localized, and recurrent gingival overgrowth in the region of tooth #15. The tissue was excised and submitted for histopathologic examination. Histopathologic examination established a definitive diagnosis of MEC. Healing after excision was uneventful. Conclusions: This case report emphasizes the importance of histopathologic examination of even a small lesion. Gingival enlargement could be the primary sign of potentially lethal diseases. Therefore, a correct diagnosis of these enlargements could prove lifesaving and improve the quality of life of the patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
