Abstrakt: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of methanol extract of Althaea officinalis flowers on serum estrogen and ovary in mature female albino rats. Twenty mature female albino rats were randomly divided into two groups, ten for each group. Control Group, rats were normal and untreated. Treated group, were normal rats administrated orally with 2 ml methanol extract of Althaea officinalis flowers at 500 mg/kg, daily for 14 days. Blood samples were taken for estrogen assays. while ovaries were used for the histological studies. The results showed there was significant reduction (P< 0.05) in estrogen of the treated rats when compared with the control and there were remarkable noted in the histology of ovary of treated group. The results suggest thatAlthaeaofficinalis has female antifertility properties, possibly acting via inhibition of estrogen secretion, resulting from the interference of secondary metabolic (phytoestrogen) of the plant with physiology reproductive of rats.
