It has been only in the last decade that more serious attention has been given to the development of standards or guidelines in the evaluation of man-made materials for dental use and biomedical applications. The need for these standards has increased with the introduction of a host of synthetic polymeric materials for a variety of dental and medical applications. In dentistry, endodontic and other dental materials are not considered implants even though the material is placed within the body of a tooth. From a practical point of view, however, endodontic materials should be considered implants when preclinical testing is considered. |
