Academic research finds only small, if any, differences between the generations. Yet, in a series of studies, we show that generational stereotypes are alive and well. Specifically, our results show that Millennials describe themselves in rather positive terms, while older generations describe Millennials significantly more negatively. These general assumptions extend to the workplace. For example, members of older generations think that Millennial employees need training in basic skills, such as professionalism, face-to-face communication, and phone and email etiquette. Qualitative data capture Millennials' frustration with being perceived as unprofessional and unmotivated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
