Made in the skull's likeness: of transi tombs, identity and memento mori.

Abstrakt: The article explores how identity could be displayed in the late Middle Ages, as in the case of the visual importance of tomb sculpture that emphasizes the bond between the sepulchral art of the later Middle Ages and the personal identities of those for whom it was commissioned. Topics discussed include means of ensuring salvation in late medieval Europe, and examination on the power of all transi tombs to express identity of the dead.
