Al-Farabi's work "The great book of music" is unique. There are many reasons to confirm it. "The Great Book of Music" deeply investigated questions of musical science, presented selected topics - harmony and rhythm, technique of musical composition, and is widely described in detail eastern and Central Asian instruments. In his treatise al-Farabi systematically and consistently covers the theory and practice of music. Based on the ancient tradition of music theory and understanding of the music of the Middle Ages, the scholar compares, analyzes and creates original musical concept. Historical and philosophical problems in his music theory can show it clearly. Music, its place in the life of people, its significance for spirituality and moral values is endless. The base of historical and philosophical formation of music theory of the thinker is relevant in philosophical, historical, cultural and axiological aspects. This theory is actual and important as Al-Farabi wrote about art of music, understanding of meaning and talent of musicians. Also he considered science and art without division. According to the thinker the science is poem, and poem is the base of art, thus the art is science.
