Abstrakt: The emergence of pressure on natural resources depends on how they are managed and used. The article offers an overview of key global and local environmental problems the population is facing with. One of the most important natural resource is the water. Thus, the article presents an analysis of the water resources and their quality. Another important aspect is overcrowding. This leads to overuse of the resources system. Because of the importance it has, the article analyses the evolution of the population. An increase in number of residents involves the application of measures to improve the environment in terms of health. Also, the initiatives of solving environmental problems should be carefully evaluated prior to their implementation. Misapplication measures may generate new problems in other areas. In this respect, it is necessary to coordinate policies and initiatives, as well as a cooperation between various local, regional, national or international authorities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
