Preoperative evaluation helps identify patient comorbidities and surgical characteristics that increase perioperative risk, and also can help identify patients with potentially difficult airways. Identifying patients with difficult airways before surgery lets clinicians plan appropriate perioperative management and prepare for potential complications.
