A study was conducted to evaluate the performance of percussion based machine developed for control of stored grain insects-pests. The machine process parameters selected were operational speed (500-1500rpm) and number of passes (1-3). The machine was evaluated on the basis of mortality percentage and broken percentage for wheat grains and Bengal gram by using response surface methodology. The optimum values of machine process parameters obtained by computer generated response surfaces, contour plot interpretations and numerical optimization for non-chemical disinfestation for wheat were 1300 rpm with one 1 pass, witnessing mortality percentage of 92% and broken percentage of 2.3 per cent. However, for Bengal gram the operational speed of 1450 rpm with 1 pass was obtained recording 97% of mortality and 4.5% of brokens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
