One of the important features of the contemporary literary process is an actualization of a variety of transgressive or hybrid phenomena. In this connection, the novel "Laurus" (2012) by Eugene Vodolazkin is not an exception. Expressed criticism is sometimes not satisfied with the discreteness of E. Vodolazkin's text, its peculiar mosaic, explicit eclectic mixture of semantic, speech, structural and genre elements. It seems that these elements have a deeper meaning. The article analyzes the semantics of the blending and the relationship of genre variants in E. Vodolazkin's novel "Laurus" with the help of methodological approaches of cultural anthropology, comparative studies and cultural-historical, philological, component, contextual and intertextual analysis. The novel by E. Vodolazkin is an attempt to write a life of a saint as a life of an ordinary man with the use of the language of a hagiography. Old Russian and Western European medieval context plays an important role in the text under discussion. In the novel, the ways of bringing the historical to the universal and timeless are diverse: intertextual play, construction of a mythological model of the chronotope, indeterminacy as a dominant in the concept of personality, etc. It seems that the most appropriate reading of E. Vodolazkin's "Laurus" is the one in the modernist paradigm; the text should be read as a neo-mythological novel, and its genre peculiarity proves it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
