Abstrakt: This research analyses the foreign policy of the «historical right» governments of the Kingdom of Italy from the first stage of the unification of this country into a single nation state and rise of the «historical right» governments to power till the transfer of power to the «historical left». It also specifies the foreign policy conditions under which the newly created state had to survive and consolidate. The paper describes key foreign policy priorities of the first «historical right» governments and concludes that the implementation of these priorities was successful. Chronologically, the research covers the period from 1861 till 1876 - from the end of the first stage of the unification of the Kingdom of Italy. The research establishes that, despite somewhat unpopular foreign policy approaches of «historical right» governments inside the country, their activities in general brought positive results. The Kingdom of Italy received international recognition, the country was protected from an external invasion, it engulfed the Veneto region, the issue of Rome was settled. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
