Abstrakt: Gilt-Edge Thermoplastics, a provider of high-quality plastics to nicheoriented markets, had a delicate relationship with its most profitable customer, Narrow Place Aerospace. Although Gilt-Edge provided fast lead times and small lot sizes, Narrow Place experienced shortages leading to production shutdowns and the need to expedite material. To alleviate these outcomes, Narrow Place proposed a Supplier Managed Inventory (SMI) program that would require Gilt-Edge to stage inventory at Narrow Place's plant. Students must decide how to satisfy a key customer without exposing the supplier to inordinate liability. The case is targeted for upper-level courses in supply chain management.
