Regarding the main problem of sugarcane insect pest of Uttar Pradesh, the investigation was carried out to survey and surveillance of major sugarcane borers at farmer fields in four districts i.e. Meerut, Baghpat, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar of Western Uttar Pradesh during 2013-14 and 2014-15. The incidence of major sugarcane borers was approximately uniform within a season among all the blocks of different districts that we surveyed during both the years of investigation. Pooled data of both the years showed that maximum incidence of early shoot borer (22.07%) and top borer (13.58%) was recorded from Meerut district whereas the root borer (7.63%) from Bagpat district. The maximum stalk borer infestation index at harvesting time was recorded from Saharanpur district (7.44%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
