The paper explores blogs specifics, in terms of their transformation into one of the ways of comprehending social reality and reacting to it. The purpose of the article is to analyze trends in blogs use, and to identify their peculiarities, value, and role in contemporary society. Blog existence highlights several layers: blog as a language, as an activity (blogging), as a genre, as a symbol of the digital age. Everything that was revealed with its stages of «evolutionary» development: from the typical online diary, which reflects author's thoughts on personal life to the public «speech» in the network; a text itself and its format as a condition for assimilation of the common human experience; its existence as a digital «reflection» of time, unfolding on socio– political background.
