Osteoma is a rare benign tumour of bone but commonly seen in maxillofacial skeleton; mainly in the frontal, ethmoidal and maxillary sinuses. The lingual surface and lower border of the body of mandible are the most common locations when osteomas present on jaw bones. It is composed of mature compact or cancellous bone depending upon either it has arised from surface of the bone (periosteal, peripheral) or from the medullary bone (endosteal, central). Osteomas have good prognosis except for if they are multiple as in Gardner's syndrome. This is a case report of large solitary peripheral osteoma with multiple exostosis located on the lingual surface of the mandible in a 66 year old male patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
