Examines an elastance of asymmetric expansion in supine adults undergoing thoracic surgery requiring endobronchial intubation. Use of esophageal pressure as an estimate of pleural pressure for determining chest wall elastance during symmetric inflation; Simulations showing that changes in the elastance of asymmetric expansion in the range of values observed could affect lung ventilation after single-lung transplantation for emphysema. |
