The article focuses on Twistex, a group dedicated to gathering atmospheric data to better understand tornadoes founded by storm chasers Cathy Finley and Bruce Lee. It discusses the death of the couple's friend Tim Samaras, his son videographer Paul and meteorologist Carl Young in May 2013 due to a violent tornado in El Reno, Oklahoma. Also discussed is the use of Blue Waters computer that can model the staggering complexities of a supertornado, by atmospheric scientist Leigh Orf. |
