This article reports that The Association for Computing Machinery's (ACM) international activities continue to expand and have become a growing presence in the Pacific Rim. ACM Chapters are operating or forming in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thialand and many other east Asian countries. An increasingly active chapter Kyoto/Japan ACM SIDMOD, was established in the year 1993. The chapter has two goals: to promote an increased knowledge of and greater interest in the science, design, development, and applications of modern computing in the management of data and to provide a means of communication between people interested in these topics. The chapter has paid special attention to improving scientific and business contacts between the academic research community and engineers. |
