In a tropical country with a warm climate and high relative humidity, natural convection on building proves to be a realistic alternative for energy conservation and thermal comfort of occupants. The investigation starts with a hypothesis that there is a relation between airflow around traditional tropical building with energy conservation and thermal comfort. Airflow around building envelopes is affected by material of building itself. To understand relation of airflow and material of building envelopes, numerical investigation has been conduct in order to reduce energy consumption. Full scale models of traditional buildings have been investigated by using numerical simulation based on the finite volume method. Varying building surfaces by imposing porosity and surface roughness, the wake characteristics around the buildings are investigated. The wake characteristics around the buildings are affected by interactions between the fence, the gate position and the distance between buildings and the fence. Parametric studies are carried out in order to understand whether these parameters affect the thermal comfort of occupants and energy consumption. Results show that permeability of fence material reduces energy consumption and increasing comfort of occupants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
