Abstrakt: The effect of sodium nitrate level on three parameters of growth of Serpula lacrimans was investigated and compared with nitrogen levels normal in wood. The results showed that mycelial extension from a wood food base over non-nutrient substrata is probably not limited by nitrogen availability, but that the rate of increase in mycelial biomass and of cellulose decomposition probably are. The nitrogen required for cellulolysis could be translocated to the site of cellulolysis when supplied at a distance from it. The result are discussed in relation to the biology of the fungus.
