Abstrakt: |
The article presents information on allergic contact dermatitis from propyl gallate. In spite of its moderate/strong sensitizing potential and widespread use as an antioxidant, there are few reports of contact dermatitis caused by propyl gallate in cosmetics and topical medicaments. The presence of propyl gallate in both foods and topical preparations raises the question of whether foodstuffs may induce sensitization or, on the contrary, food intake lead to tolerance. Experimental and controlled studies are required on this subject. |
