A 19-year-old agricultural student was clearing trees and brambles. He was pulling out an ornamental tree known as the tree of heaven or Ailanthus altissima and rested this against his bare arm as he worked. Sap from the tree soaked into his T-shirt and gloves. Within 2 hours, he noticed an extremely itchy red rash on his forearm. When seen in the dermatology department, the rash was an urticated eczematous eruption. This resolved on treatment with topical corticosteroids and oral antihistamines. |
