The concept of stability plays an important role in the measurement of children's peer relations. This article focuses on the temporal stability of children's peer relations, as assessed with sociometric methods. Even before the use of sociometrics, researchers studied the stability of social structure in children's playmates and workmates across a five-month period. The boys' peer preferences were obtained two months into the school year and again three months later. The results of this study indicated that 92 percent of the boys' first choice and 82 percent of their second choices remained unchanged across the three-month interval. |
