Aim: The aim of the present study was to determine the choice of arch wire material, dimensions, and trade name of routinely used arch wires in fixed orthodontic appliance treatment among orthodontists practicing in Gujarat. Material and methods: 97 out of 135 orthodontists, registered in the Indian Orthodontic Society of Gujarat state responded to the study. An online survey monkey tool was utilized to record the response of an open ended questionnaire from orthodontists, registered in Indian Orthodontic Society of Gujarat state. Results: 0.014" and 0.016" NiTi wire of Ormco with ovoid arch form was most commonly used by clinicians during initial alignment phase of the treatment. Inter-canine width was most frequently used as inter-arch dimension. During space closure a 0.019"×0.025" S.S. arch wire was most commonly used. Study models and symmetry charts were used by majority of clinicians during space closure by taking inter-canine and inter-molar width as landmarks. Conclusion: The inter-canine width was considered important in the early stages of treatment. Majority of clinicians used study models and symmetry charts as an aid during space closing phase of treatment. Original inter-canine and inter-molar width was considered important.
