β-(2-Pyridyl) ketones are a unique class of heterocycles with valuable physicochemical properties and emerging relevance as pharmacophores. Herein we report a one-step process for the preparation of various substituted β-(2-pyridyl) ketones from the common starting material, 2,6-lutidine. Furthermore, we demonstrate the utility of this building block by synthesizing of a small set of antimalarial natural products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
