The article explores three Thai manuscripts formerly from the collection of Colonel Gerolamo Emilio Gerini that were donated to the Instituto Orientale Universitario, which contain canonical Buddhist texts and non-canonical works in Pali and Thai languages. Topics discussed include the restricted use of writing in Buddhism during its first centuries, the manuscript containing a section of the Tipitaka or the "Abhidhammapitaka" and the jatakas depicted in one of the manuscripts' illustrations. |
