The article presents a study which analyzed intrinsic and extrinsic determinants of mouse skeletal stem cell (mSSC) function to identify specific mSSC-related abnormalities that could impair skeletal repair in diabetic mice. Topics discussed include link between diabetes mellitus and impaired bone healing, molecular characterization of the skeletal niche points to therapeutic strategies, and isolation of skeletal progenitor cells. |
