Abstrakt: The article presents a data which predicts that poor ribosome assembly leads to delayed protein translation in early erythroid precursors and excess heme and the macrocytic anemia of Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA) and del(5q) myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The studies reveal that erythropoiesis fails when heme exceeds globin. It also suggest that therapies that decrease heme synthesis could improve the red blood cell production of persons with DBA, del(5q) MDS, and other macrocytic anemias.
