The article analyzes development of viticulture in southern Ukraine in late XVIII - early XIX. It shows that formation of viticulture in this period on the lands of modern Ukraine took place with the active support of the Russian Empire: importation of vineyards from other areas, promotional activities among the local population who were involved in planting vineyards and settlement of foreign colonists, skilled growers, who were provided by significant benefits for introducing the culture of grapes and others. Practical experience of known at the time specialists growers who have made a significant contribution to the development of viticulture in southern Ukraine: Paravichini, M. Vorontsov, K. Tardan, M.
