12 cases of contact dermatitis from yellow cotton sweaters occurred in Japan in 1987. The sweaters were dyed yellow with Naphthol AS-G and Fast Scarlet Salt GG, and lightened by bleaching with sodium hypochlorite solution. In these cases phosgene (2,5-dichlorophenyl)hydrazone has been determined as the main sensitizer. Chromatographic fractions of the extract were patch tested. A 43-year-old male volunteer was sensitized by patch testing with yellow sweater during irritancy testing. When patch tested with the fractions of the acetone extract of sweater, he gave positive reactions to the hexane and methanol fractions. |
